About Shades of Gay

Many in this country have a narrow or limited view of what homosexuality means.  There are erroneous preconceptions about homosexuality and homosexual behaviors.  Absent of a caring or capable family figure, this video offers hope for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and questioning youth from the voices of experience.

This film hopes to 1. demonstrate that there are as many different “ways to be gay” as there are gay and lesbian people, 2. support someone in their coming out process,  and 3. educate professionals about issues surrounding the coming out process.

Shades of Gay is a result of the three producers’ Tulane University Graduate School of Social Work thesis project.  We interviewed 19 people in an effort to seek the personal experiences of insightful and varying sexual outlooks.  In addition, we interviewed 6 experts in sexology and related fields whose observations contextualize the personal interviews. From these 20 hours of interviews, we have created a video that will demonstrate to viewers that there are as many sexual orientations as there are people.
